How to Get Involved

People from all walks of life can get involved with Northern Exposure Rescue.

Membership costs £5 per year and this is used to pay for our overheads. Once you’ve paid your £5 we will then set about getting you involved. The main way we do this is by inviting you to crew a safety boat at the various events we attend. The skipper of the boat will take you “under the wing” for these events and involve you as much or as little as you like. Many members choose to attend some of the overnight events and we mix the safety boating up with the social side of NER.

After a few events many people develop a good idea of how we operate and what we expect from our members. We will then help you identify the best training to develop your interests and this can vary from the RYA Powerboat 2 Course to a First Aid Course to a VHF Course. This variation is because we acknowledge people’s different interests and encourage a wide variety of skills across NER.

The training courses are arranged either by NER or other organisations and we choose them so they cost as little as possible. In some cases we might ask for a contribution to the cost of attending a course but to date this has only been travelling costs.

After that it really is up to you. Many members are regulars and attend certain events each year. Other use our links to get further training and we currently have several RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructors as members.

And finally we all need a bit of play time so we do organise
several Social trips / BBQ’s / RIB trips / Interest trips /
Sailing breaks etc.
