The Boat Fund
2011 was by far our busiest and we supported many events. This year we have retained all of last years events and added even more to the list.
Our services are in high demand and unfortunately we do have to turn down some events simply because our resources are all in use at other locations. In the past this has lead to event organisers using expensive commercial organisations or running events with low levels of rescue cover.
In order to avoid this we are looking to purchase a new club boat and we hope this will:-
Allow us to support more events:
We mainly use our members own boats to attend events. If the number and type of boats we have access to increases we will be able to offer more services.Attract more members:
It is readily accepted that volunteers are drawn to organisations that offer more training, development and participation opportunities. By offering these we hope to draw in a greater number of members, create better trained volunteers and ensure succession planning. The proposed new boat will offer a more flexible training platform:
We are hoping to be able to purchase a boat that is specifically built and equipped as a safety boat. This will mean medium to advanced level training can be delivered on the proper equipment rather than hiring in or simulating. It will also mean we will be able to cover a multitude of activities from safety boating to photography and event management. It will reduce costs:
Having our own boat means we can spend money in a more focussed way to deliver exactly what we need. We can hopefully purchase modern fuel efficient engines that are not only better for the environment, they will remove expenditure on 2 stroke oil and reduce fuel costs.
